Where Dennis Stands
1. Cut the Cost of Heating a Home
This is the kitchen table issue in the North Country and the campaign’s strongest ground. Heating a home through a Northern New York winter, propane costs, and keeping the lights on.
● Hardening and modernizing the grid so families and small businesses are not left in the dark when it matters most.
● The frame is investment, not austerity. Telling people to tighten their belt repeatedly is not a plan.
● People here are not expecting miracles, but they do expect things to work as they should.
2. Rebuild Roads, Pipes and Broadband
Distance and isolation are the organizing facts of life in this district. Every issue connects back to geography.
● Roads, bridges, water systems and broadband.
● A grid that handles the weather that happens every season, not the weather in a planning document.
3. Build Careers Without Leaving Home
The campaign phrase is stay and build. Young families leaving is the loss that compounds.
● Workforce pathways through BOCES programs, certifications and SUNY partnerships.
● People should be able to build a future here without leaving to find opportunity.
4. Keep Our Hospitals Open
Hospitals in the North Country are closing because of a shrinking customer base rather than a shrinking pool of patients who need care. That distinction is the campaign’s line and it lands.
● Long drives for basic services are a normal part of life here and should be named plainly.
● Investing in healthcare and medicine rather than letting for profit pressure decide which facilities survive.
5. Invest in Local Trades and Main Street
The argument is to support what already exists here rather than waiting for another large corporation to arrive.
● Small businesses, trades and artisan industries that already define the region.
● Work that keeps money local and communities strong.
● Supports the right of workers to organize in any manner they choose.
● Supports collective bargaining for private and public sector workers.
● Has proposed preventing firms from purchasing personal data that could be used to target employees who are organizing.
